Hi, I’m Bridget Smith. I advise on the full range of employment law issues for both employers and employees, with a specialty in negotiating complex exits for senior employees.  I am also often brought in as an independent investigator for external workplace investigations (I am an AWI certificate holder (AWI-CH) since 2019).

With more than 20 years’ experience, I have developed broad advocacy skills in both mediations and litigation. As well as regular appearances in the specialist employment institutions, I have also appeared in the High Court and Court of Appeal, together with the Royal Commission on the Pike River Coal Mine Tragedy.

I am a regular commentator on employment law issues in print, on radio and on tv.  In addition, I regularly present at both client and industry seminars.

I have been recognised by the following guides and publications:

  • Employment Law in the Chambers and Partners’ 2024 Guide

  • 'Leading Individual' in the Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2024 Guide

  • Best Lawyers 2024 New Zealand Guide for Employment/Labour

  • Doyles for Employment Law in New Zealand.

I established Smith Dunn with Kylie Dunn in 2024.
